What is the ultimate reality of our lives? When I started reading this book, I was wondering why the author kept referring to and quoting from the Upanishads, religious scriptures from ancient India. However, as I kept reading on, I realized how relevant these writings still are, in our fast-paced and chaotic lives today.Quoting from one of the chapters, this line really had an impact on me - "As is your deed, so is your destiny" - Upanishads. A lot of us, I am sure, do believe in this. The author elaborates further - "......meaning your thoughts and deeds in life are restricted only to those results that you are destined for." Whereas, according to the author, and here I concur fully, "If you really wish strongly for something........start joining forces with your intellect and emotions, in achieving that which may in fact, be far beyond your capability of thinking....as life or cosmic energy will always respond to your intentions."
Wow! If this is actually what spiritual living is about, as portrayed by Mr. Gian Kumar in "The Ultimate Reality", then I am all for it!

I have been touched by the simplicity and honesty of the author, Mr. Gian Kumar, right from his very first book "Know Thyself". I found I could relate totally to his subject of not really knowing, and accepting, my true self, with all my faults and flaws. His second book as well, set me on to the path of self-awareness.
In this third book, "The Ultimate Reality", he continues with the same honesty, admitting that he is neither a spiritual teacher, nor very spiritually inclined himself. Yet he very beautifully shows us how, through "experiential living", we can attain that pure balance in our lives, between ourselves and the environment in which we live. "The experience of a separate self is just an illusion", he says.
The author's methods of arriving at such a balance are simple and easy to follow in our daily lives. This book definitely goes on to my list of favorites!
For a long time now I have been practicing meditation and mindfulness. Yet I find I have to struggle to bring myself away from racing thoughts each time. How difficult it is!
In his book "The Ultimate Reality" the author tries to explain how to deal with this dilemma. He says, "Your presence should be in mindfulness, where you live from one moment to another; in deep acceptance and awareness....This is our reality." He also tells us that we should not surrender to any superior being or master, but only to our self." It is the true path towards living in peace and harmony with the universe. So let the thoughts come and go, just try and remain in that mindfulness, till you can do it effortlessly.
This book has appealed to me more than any other, as regards resolving a lot of conflicts in my mind. Do read it. I'm sure it will have a similar effect on you.
To quote, "The ultimate reality makes it important to understand our connection and relation with our own existence."
Here the author makes us conscious of awareness, which is different from thought. In fact, he says, thought is but a part of awareness. "Awareness is that energy which brings forth consciousness and thought." So how do we achieve this all-important awareness and oneness Mr. Gian Kumar talks about throughout his book "The Ultimate Reality"?
Very simple! He gives us methods in his last Chapter, on centering ourselves, which are worth reading and thinking about, before implementing in our lives. Factors like listening, silence and laughter, which should be part of our daily lives, are so often forgotten in the nitty-gritty of existence. We are so busy talking that we often forget to listen, how very true!
Whatever stage of life you may be in right now, believe me, this is a journey worth undertaking.
There are religious books and there are books on spiritualism. The Ultimate Reality is a blend about the effects of both on our lives. Mind you,I have said 'about', not 'on'. If it was a book on religion, or on spiritualism, I wouldn't have bought it, for the simple reason that such books which talk only on either subject, I find too technical and high flown for a lay person such as myself.
For one thing, the title aroused my curiosity. What is the ultimate reality of our existence in this world? This is a simple question which preys on one's mind from time to time, at different stages of our lives.
Secondly, on reading the book, I found the answer so clean and comprehensive in its simplicity, that I was amazed it had not occurred to me earlier! The explanations given by the author during the early part of the book, about finding the center between self and the universe of which we are only a part, paved the way for the methods given later on, to live a peaceful and harmonious existence with our fellow human beings.
Such holistic and realistic thoughts are essential for all of us during these troubled times.
