I’m not a fashionista in any stretch of the word. I buy my tennis shoes at Target and my jeans at Maurices (the same style for the past decade, at least), and my tshirts and hoodies are primarily from my favorite shows/movies (Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Friends, etc.). I love comfortable. In fact, now that I work at home, I wear sweats or pj pants on a daily basis and only have one pair of jeans that fits, nor do I care if my clothing matches if I won’t be leaving the house. So why did I read a chick lit book where the main character is a fashion consultant in London? Because I can, duh! And because BLUE AND GREEN SHOULD NEVER BE SEEN has been on my TBR for quite a while. When Colette schedule a blog tour through KCAS (shameless self plug), I knew it was time to check this one off the list. And I’m glad I did! While I didn’t understand much of the fashion side of things, I quite enjoyed and could very well relate to the business aspect to the story. GiGi is bound and determined to make her business a success and is prepared to step around those who want to stop her. I admired her want to grow her business and applaud her decisions along the way. Blue and Green Should Never Be Seen! Or so Mother Says Colette Kebell 9781505941401 Books Reviews
Gigi has a problem with a fashion addiction and a lack of funds to feed that addiction. She finds a away to turn her skills with fashion into a business helping wealthy clients with their own fashion choices. GiGi does all this while being criticized by her mother (if only criticizing would empower more children!).
This was a wonderful chick-lit story about persevering in the face of adversity and opening up to love at the same time.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Colette Kebell wrote a very entertaining story about how persistence in following your dreams can pay off…or not. Can one person truly “have-it-all”? Her main character, GiGi is an absolute Spit-Fire! She is truly awesome! This is a cross between, “Devil wears Prada” and “Bridget Jones’ Diary”.
GiGi loves anything and everything about fashion. She cannot get enough of top name-brand clothing, shoes and accessories. With her love of fashion, and seeing all the people in need of “fashion intervention”, she decides that opening a Fashion Consultant/Personal Shopper business would be both fun and lucrative for her. She also believed that the people she helped would be happier with their appearance, which would also help their overall outlook on their lives. Her excitement is SO contagious. It actually jumps off of the page, making you read on and on and on, not wanting to put the book down. I read the book so quickly, because it was written with such excitement and intrigue.
GiGi speaks with her best friend, Ritchie about her dream of being Fashion Consultant…and he jumps on board and they begin a Fashion Consultant business in a shed!! Yes, a shed. With tenacity and seriously hard work, they find an office in London. This is where the story takes off. I don’t want to give much away, as that was truly part of the fun in reading this story.
There is a villain, there are lots of friends, there is love, and rivalry…..great fashion, food, conversation and a lot of just plain fun.
Her Mothers nagging is part of this story, but I don’t think it is anywhere near the epicenter of this story. It did not have the same bite that I was expecting after reading the summary of this book, and the title. But, it certainly did not change my feelings about this story.
This would be a great book to add to your weekend or beach reading days coming up. I look forward to more of Colette Kebell’s stories.
This book is cute as a button (a very beautiful, high-fashion button, of course). Colette Kebell has created a superstar in GiGi, our quirky, fashion-loving heroine.
After working in jobs she hates and building up credit card debts buying mountains of clothes, GiGi realises that there is only one thing she loves enough to do as a career fashion. When a wealthy family friend enlists her to sort her wardrobe out, GiGi’s reputation as a fashion consultant to rich women quickly rises and boom! Her business is born.
After moving to expensive London, especially with the threat of a huge department store opening across the road, the business is struggling, especially when GiGi loses the help of her best friend Ritchie. And when she meets a handsome, sexy chef, she has to decide which is more important work or love?
GiGi is really a brilliant and quite unique character. Though she has run up debts in the past, she relys on herself and her talents to pull her out of trouble, which is really quite inspiring, especially in the face of her mother’s disapproval and a whole host of other obstacles. She’s loyal, hard-working but also fun and totally relatable. My one quibble would be that her romances didn’t quite sizzle in the same way that her love of clothes did!
Colette Kebell writes with confidence and a cheeky flair which will keep you smiling from first page to last.
Colette Kebell made an amazing job with this novel, the writing was flowing and effortless to read I've devoured it in a couple of work days. I can't wait to read more of her works.
The heroine of this chick-lit is incredible,I envy her strength and her perseverance.
Gigi doesn't let bad news take away her joy for fashion and the pleasure her advices bring to her clients.
The work of a fashion consultant in London is not easy but with a great work ethic and a bunch of good friends (old and new) you can survive every hardships and succeed.
I strongly recommend this story because I've enjoyed it a lot and being a business woman I could relate with our heroine struggles and satisfactions.
P.S. half point added for the american/italian chef whose name was not mangled xD
I was traveling on vacation and reading this book. I enjoyed everything about it and it helped promote the vacation spirit.
